These ducks are dabblers, not divers, finding food near the water’s surface. The male Northern Shoveler, in front. has a specially adapted bill for sifting small animals from the water. Blue-winged Teal, in the back, eat both small animals and seeds. The male is on the left, the female on the right. (April, 20016)
